Easy to Understand Soccer Passing Drills

Soccer Passing Drills are integral parts of the training routine of most teams in the world, and consist in exercises without  opponents intended to rehearse movements that will be executed in a determined match, or also form part of the strategic array of  plays that a coach instruct regularly.These practices need to be understood by the players to apply them in real competition. Soccer Passing Drills Number 1> 2 + 1 v 1

The defender in the location A is going to be added into the current settings.  The defender must defend only the halfway line between the models. Thinking that the attacking team is a save grouping to the opposite team. In order to achieve this objective the E or D players should join the group. When the first player starts the run and passes for the first time; every following play will be dealt with only one touch of the ball. When the offensive team group accomplishes its objective they are prized with 1 point.

The interceptions of the defensive team the ball are also awarded with a point.

Then the drill is executed from the opposite side and players interchange positions.

Drill Number 2> 1 In 1 Out

Doing a square shape formation the players will pass the ball to the player that is located in the middle of the square that should turn around and pass the ball to the next line. Then the players who turn and execute their passes goes to the back of the line. The player, who passed the ball to the middle player, then moves to the middle position to restart the process.

This is a basic drill that is intended to be executed by players of any age in order to develop pass and turn skills.

It is also needed to say that this drill requires 2 balls to be trained, due that is necessary to give one of the two balls to each of the two lines that are on the same side of the square.

Also for more developed players this exercise can be done by touching the ball only once, or using their less skilful foot.

This drill starts with the player A dribbling and passing the ball in the way of the player B. Then A begins a run to the model upfront and get the ball from B and gives the ball with only 2 touches to the player C. Then C gives the ball with 1 touch to B, who plays behind the left model. The player A receives the ball directly from C who is near the right model, and then A wait and passes the ball in a second touch to B who is at the at the back model. The next step is a give and go combination between B and A.

Finally the drill is closed with a last pass to player D, to start everything again with all the players returning to their initial positions.

Normally the coaches demand in this soccer drill maximum speed from the players to develop the ability to play precisely in a fast rhythm game.

Passing Drill 5> Grid Passing

These soccer drill is intended to develop the first touch of the players, and consist in that the players practice in pairs passing the ball each other in a nearly 10 to 20 yards apart distance. Each player stays in a small square of about 9 square yards, and should pass the ball in only 1 touch.

All these dimensions should be managed according the ages and the skills of the players, making for example the distance bigger in between for more experienced players.

Players pass each other the ball until one of them pass the ball outside of the square, and when this is the case the opposite player is awarded with 1 point.

This practice helps them to improve their first touch and soften their feet. Like many of these drill this one can be use as a warm up exercise  for all ages, or can be used also as technical improvement exercise.

Drill 6> Tiqui Taka

The tiqui taka style of soccer playing goes to the times when Johan Cruyff was the manager of the football club Barcelona, but is more associated with Pep Guardiola.  The zonal style playing was later taken by several Spanish national coaches, and even took them to be World Cup champions.

The drill is performed in a square of between 10 and 20 meters, and starts with the player A passing the ball to the  player B and then sequentially the rest of the players continue with the same routine until A passes back to D and then moves to the center, and D passes into the way of C who dribbles to the starting point in the other side. After that the player D is the first player and B the second to get the ball. The play continue with runs on the left side with A as the player that is in the middle.

Definitely the Soccer passing drills are part not only of the training routine of soccer players, but also are fundamental for the tactical and strategic formation of younger soccer players. These drills beyond developing technical skills, help them to understand the different plays and movements that are the pillars that support the theoretical  structure of modern soccer. Attacking, defensive or mixed way of playing have to be understood, to be planned and executed  in the right way. The fundamentals of soccer by itself have not changed to much, but the enormous evolution of the physical training techniques has made that the sport becomes each time more physical, and even the most skillful players show body shapes that only a decade ago was inimagible.
