Top 10 Players You Should Be Watching Right Now

I received great feedback on my “Top 10 Teams You Should Be Watching Right Now” post, so I decided to double up! This is my personal list of the top 10 players in the world that you should be watching. However, this does not mean I think these are the 10 best players in the world. I believe they are just the most fun to watch! Maybe I’ll get started on a top 10 list for the best players soon, so keep your eyes peeled! Without further ado, let’s get started!

#1- Eden Hazard, Chelsea FC

You all should know by now that I am a huge Chelsea fan and will always show them love whenever I get the chance! The Belgian is one of the best players on the planet right now and is electric every time he plays. Hazard mostly plays on the left wing, cutting in on his right foot to create countless chances. In my opinion his dribbling talents are what make him so good. The ball looks like it’s glued to his foot as he cuts through opposing defenses. His abilities on the ball, paired with his incredible speed, make him a nightmare to play against.

#2- Douglas Costa, Juventus FC

Tricky wingers are some of the most fun players to watch and that’s exactly what Douglas Costa is. Like many of his fellow Brazilians, Costa is exceptional driving forward with the ball at his feet. Although he may be overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo at Juve, Costa is a great talent. His attacking abilities are well-known across Europe, with experience at Bayern Munich and Shaktar Donetsk in his career. The 28 year old still has multiple seasons in him and will continue to give defenders nightmares for years to come.

#3- Antoine Griezmann, Atletico Madrid

Now a World Cup winner, Antoine Griezmann has won more than his fair share of trophies. Hailing from France, Griezmann has made his talent known in Spain, first at Real Sociedad and now Atletico Madrid. Goals are the Frenchman’s calling card and as the lead striker for his club and national team, he scores a lot of them. His technical ability paired with his precise shooting make him a constant threat whenever he touches the ball. All of his ability paired with funny goal celebrations and a great attitude make him a must watch star.

#4- Marco Reus, Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund fans and the vast majority of neutral football fans have to be so happy with what Reus has done this year. Injuries have plagued the incredible German for multiple seasons now. This year that is not the case however, as the Dortmund star has been sensational. His speed and ability on the ball make him nearly unstoppable when he is at his best. Reus is also well known for his abilities as a goal scorer. This season alone Reus has 10 goals in 17 matches, which is fantastic for a winger like him. If his health can continue to hold, Reus will be a driving force for more seasons to come.

#5- Kylian Mbappe, PSG

I know that I just wrote an independent article on this kid but he is absolutely remarkable. His sheer speed paired with his dribbling and shooting abilities make him one of the most valuable players in the world. There are simply no words left about him that haven’t already been said. He’s simply electric every time he steps on the field. If he remains healthy then he will continue to dominate the sport for years to come. There are few players in the world that can do what Mbappe can and if they can do it, they are already 5-10 years older than him. To be direct about it, there is no player better than him at his age. Mbappe won’t turn 20 for another month still, he has almost his whole career ahead of him. It’s time for us to sit back and enjoy the show.

#6- Paul Pogba, Manchester United

Following Mbappe on any list is no easy act, yet Pogba is one of the few players in my opinion who can. Another member of the ridiculously loaded French national team, Pogba is world class. Central midfielders are often no nonsense players who have the ability to attack and defend. However, none of them do it as gracefully and stylishly as Pogba. His ability to beat a man with skill or place a perfect pass place him near the top of anyone’s watch list. To see him at his best, United need to allow him the freedom to roam the field and simply create.

#7- Isco, Real Madrid

Intricate dribbling and flashy passing make up Isco’s repertoire. The Spanish midfielder is an extremely creative player that is finally getting his due at Real Madrid. With the exodus of Ronaldo, Real have had an attacking void. Isco is just the man for the role. He can unlock a defense with a seemingly simple pass or drop of the shoulder. In terms of technical skill, Isco is right near the top of the list. If you like fancy flicks and skills, watch Isco, you won’t be disappointed.

#8- Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City

If you want to see a masterclass in attacking talent, De Bruyne is the guy for you. He is fantastic going forward with the ball at his feet. Opponents have to be on high alert if he gains possession within 30-35 yards of goal because he could simply lace the ball into the back of the net or pick out a teammate running through on goal. His dribbling is another aspect of his game that is outstanding. De Bruyne is one of the toughest players to dispossess in the Premier League and maybe the world. If you’re a player who wants to be a dynamic attacking midfielder, De Bruyne is the player you should watch.

#9- Lorenzo Insigne, Napoli

The diminutive Italian will not overpower any player on the field but he doesn’t have to because he can breeze right past them. Insigne is listed at 5’4″ and 130 pounds which is not large by any stretch of the imagination. However, his small stature makes it incredibly easy for him to get to top speed in a very short period of time. This insane acceleration paired with fantastic ball control have defenders in the Serie A saying their prayers every time Insigne touches the field.

#10- James Rodriguez, Bayern Munich

After making a name for himself in 2014 World Cup, James earned a big money move to Real Madrid. However, Rodriguez struggled to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and other high quality players at Real. Frustrated with his lack of production, Madrid sent him on loan to Bayern where he has thrived. Fantastic dribbling and passing are the calling card for James as is his ability to pop up and score screamers. The Colombian has seemed to settle in with Bayern and will look to add to his resume with continued stellar play.

This concludes my list of the top 10 players you should be watching right now! What do you think of my list? Feel free to let me know who you have been watching in the comments! Don’t forget to share and subscribe and I will see you next time! Thank you to Fredrik @F_edits for the permission to use his great work!

  • Kevin Sall

I like Eden Hazard because of his work ethic. The only reason he is as good as he is, is because he has put the hours in to be that good. Natural talent will only get a person so far. It takes a determination/sheer will to be the best and then work that much harder to remain the best.
