2018-19 Bundesliga Predictions (12-7)

Welcome back to teams 12-7 in my Bundesliga predictions! Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments, share, and subscribe. Let’s get into it!

12th Place- Eintracht Frankfurt

Losing four of your best players is never a good thing. For that reason I have Frankfurt sliding four spots from their solid eighth place finish last season. The most frustrating part for Frankfurt fans is that two of these players, Lukas Hradecky and Kevin-Prince Boateng, left for free. The other two, Marius Wolf and Omer Mascarell left for pennies on the dollar. Breakout World Cup star Ante Rebic hopes to fire in the goals this season as he did for Croatia this summer. If he can find the back of the net and loanee goalkeeper Kevin Trapp can keep shots out Frankfurt may beat my prediction but for now I am keeping them in 12th.

11th Place- Werder Bremen

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund make a name for stealing the best players from other teams in their league. Unfortunately for Werder Bremen, that is exactly what happened. Midfield Thomas Delaney was crucial to their 11th place finish last season. Why do I have them finishing there again if they lost their best player? Because of the consistency everywhere else in the team. Jiri Pavlenka is an extremely gifted keeper and he anchors a backline that is relatively unchanged. As an American, I have to make an obligatory shout out to Josh Sargent. The 18 year old will look to crack into Bremen’s striker rotation this season and has the support of his manager. Look to add him to the ranks of promising Americans in the German top flight.

10th Place- VfB Stuttgart

Avid Bundesliga followers may wonder why I dropped this team from their perch of seventh last year despite the fact that they retained key players. The reason I have Stuttgart sliding is not due to the fact that I believe they got worse. Actually, I think they got better, the problem is the other teams that finished around them last season got that much better. Somehow they kept hold of French starlet Benjamin Pavard this summer. This despite the fact that he lit the world on fire this summer at the World Cup. Stuttgart made solid signings this window and I could see them outperforming this prediction. Keep an eye on this team, I don’t honestly know what to expect out of them.

9th Place- VfL Wolfsburg

Last season was an anomaly for this usually consistent Wolfsburg side. 16th place caused far too much stress and led to a new manager at the helm last February. They didn’t lose hardly any players this past summer and made quality signings. Left back Jerome Roussillon came over on a bargain deal after a fantastic season in France last year. Young winger Josip Brekalo was one of the few bright lights for Wolfsburg last year and looks to build on the promise seen in him. This is an interesting Wolfsburg side and I am interested to see if they prove me wrong.

8th Place- Hertha BSC

Why do I have Hertha jumping from tenth last season to eighth this year? Consistency is key. Hertha lost only two contributing players and brought in quality, young talent. Karim Rekik and Niklas Stark make a solid center back pairing. Keeper Rune Jarstein is criminally underrated and seems to be getting better with age at 34. Striker Vedad Ibisevic is a leader and captain for this side and will look to lead the line to a top half finish this season.

7th Place- FC Schalke 04

This team was a hot pick to finish in the top 4 this season. It’s obvious to see why too, they are loaded with talent. However, one of the benefits of writing this article a little after the season’s start has given me a little sneak preview. Things don’t look good. This Schalke side is winless through 5 games and things look painful. This side has so much talent that I simply cannot put them lower than this. My obligatory American shout out goes to Weston McKennie, the young central midfielder. This guy is a ball of energy and features often in this Schalke side. I believe he can help pick this side out of the hole they are in early.
